At this time last year (and three years ago), I was sitting in a hospital bed snuggling with my newborn. One born in Phoenix, one in Raleigh but both were beautiful, healthy babies with heads full of dark brown hair.
Two birthdays, two birthday letters. At least I can knock it out in one fell swoop, right?
To Big Roo…
Dear Big Roo,
You are one hysterical four year old. Listening to your stories and random comments just make me laugh. You have such an imagination and I can only hope that as your mama, I keep encouraging that in you. Like when you told me about the “cinnamon pie” you were gonna make. You used the word “ingredients” all by yourself and told me the pie was made up of cinnamon, apples, pears and applesauce. Sounds delish, buddy.
Right now, you are so into anything car related. We race cars across the couch, the floor and anywhere else there’s a flat surface. You even have your little brother saying “vrooooo.”
You love to help us cook and are quite possibly the best four-year-old eater I know of. While it may take you AN HOUR to eat dinner, you love salad, broccoli, tofu, edamame, pomegranates, cottage cheese and even radishes. You even turned down regular fries the other day in favor of sweet potato fries. Of course, you’ll never turn down a piece of chocolate but who can blame you?
I love your smile and that giggle is infectious. You’re a great “big bruh-der” and Little Roo is so lucky to have you already looking out for him. I can’t wait to see what the year of FOUR has in store for us.
To Little Roo…
Dear Little Roo,
From the moment you were born, you were full of surprises. You literally were born within four hours of your brother. Even now you’re always close behind him. You love climbing on his back and squealing, which Big Roo affectionately refers to as “Baby Backpaaaack.”
People always talk about those eyes, those crazy long eyelashes and that blond head of hair. You’re one gorgeous kid and when you smile, your eyes squint so perfectly that I just wanna squeeze you to pieces.
Your favorite book is Peek-a-Who and you just love saying “boooo.” It took you a while to get the hang of food but now you’ll devour most things, although you suddenly don’t like yogurt anymore. What gives?
You just adore your brother and nothing makes me happier than watching him make you laugh. I picture you guys years into the future and still see that happening. Although by then you’ll speak in more than “goooos” and “baaaas” and I’m sure you’ll make him laugh too.
I’m so proud to be your mama and am ready for a year of learning new words, walking (right now you’re still crawling more than walking) and going on some wee adventures.
