Week in My Life: Monday

October 10, 2011 by melissa

Welcome to the first Week in My Life link-up! Here my run down of my Monday. Be sure to check the linky at the bottom for a chance to win a camera bag courtesy of ThisLife!

Little Roo woke up around 6:30 am coughing and pretty cranky. Oh yes and he wet his pajamas I discovered… which rarely happens anymore. Happy Monday!

I changed him into a “play” outfit until Big Roo woke up so we could do baths. Usually baths are every other evening but we didn’t get around to it last night since my brother-in-law and sister-in-law passed through town on their way back home to VA.

So we made a little coffee. Little Roo wanting to help of course.

Big Roo got up sometime after 7 am and then crawled in bed for a second. Not that he was resting.

And he brings his entourage with him downstairs every morning. If you aren’t familiar with that pink bear back there, his name is Burt and we almost lost him at Toys R Us one holiday season. That bear is Big Roo’s favorite thing in the world.

Little Roo will lay in our bed for about five seconds before he squirms to get down. Today he stayed maybe 10 seconds… but only because he had milk.

You see this kid pointing. Want to know what he’s pointing at???? Joe-Joes. Yes, Trader Joe’s version of Oreos. EVERY morning we go to the pantry, he points at them and says, “Joe Joes.” No son, not for breakfast.

Children running with, crawling under and hiding behind large pieces of fabric was a real theme today. Who knew? It started with Little Roo taking off with a blanket wrapped around him.

Every morning, Little Roo steals Daddy Roo’s breakfast. It doesn’t matter what he already had, Daddy’s must taste better.

I managed to get the kids in the bath before preschool, which is usually reserved for evenings when Daddy Roo can help me with the kids post-bath FRENZY. During bathtime though, Little Roo thought it would be funny to drink the water. Yuck.

After their bath, they ran like crazy little people into Big Roo’s room and hid under a towel.

And THEN when I shooed them out of Big Roo’s room because they were jumping on the bed (don’t need an accident, kids), they proceeded to hide behind the curtains in Little Roo’s room. See what I mean about fabric?

This is one of my fave shots of the day. I snapped this shot right after a pulled back the curtain and went RAHHRRRR!

Although we were running a few minutes late, I got the kids to preschool around 9 am. Big Roo loves walking Little Roo down the hall to his class.

This kid doesn’t even care when I leave. He’s been going here since the summer and has cried for me just once! I can barely get a kiss from him before I leave!

Big Roo of course likes to ham it up for the camera when he gets to his room.

So, in between preschool and the next shot I headed to Whole Foods because we were completely out of milk. I hate doing errands during work time but sometimes you gotta. I used my Living Social voucher and got $20 worth of groceries for $10. Too bad I spent a tad more than that. We typically shop at Trader Joes and Target so I got too excited about all the yummy stuff at Whole Foods.

When I got home, I FINALLY ate my breakfast. Usually I get a chance to eat in the morning but this morning was extra crazy with the bath thrown in there. I decided to work at the coffee table for a while.

I tried a self-portrait by laying the camera on my couch. You couldn’t see much of me but I sorta like how it turned out!

On Mondays the kids are in preschool from 9 am to 2:30. Preschool ends at noon but they have lunch til 1 and then go to their Aftercare program from 1-2:30. We do this twice a week so I can get my marketing consulting work done. The kids ADORE it and Big Roo pretty much begs to go there everyday.

While they were in school, I worked on my Momcomm post, talked with people on Facebook and Twitter, worked on a blog critique and worked on a website copywriting project for a client. Here are a few screenshots of my morning.

The time flew though and before I knew it I was picking the kids up. Unfortunately, this became Cranky Toddler Afternoon starting with Little Roo sitting in the laundry room searching through his preschool bag for milk… until I brought him some FRESH milk (fresh from Whole Foods, mind you).

Oh and there was room for one more “playing with fabric” episode.

Make that two.

During naptime, Big Roo insisted on watching Cars 2 videos on YouTube. This is a daily routine now during Big Roo’s nap. He watches it for a while on Daddy’s computer while I work a bit. Then we do something together and I clean up the house a bit.

We made ghosts to hang on our tree outside. I’ve been bad about crafty things lately so I’m trying to get back into it. Thought this would be an easy place to start.

Once Little Roo woke up, we headed outside for a while. Honestly from 4:45 – 6:00, the half hour outside was the only time he wasn’t crying. The kid has a cold and was miserable.

He wanted to wear Big Roo’s helmet and obviously knows how to put it on. Obviously. This was right before I chased them around the yard.

Skipping to after dinner before you get bored to tears. Big Roo and I “raced” to pick up the Legos in three minutes. Nothing like a challenge to get him to clean up.

Daddy Roo and I take turns putting the kids to bed. Whoever doesn’t do that is on dishes duty. Tonight was Daddy Roo’s kid night and so Burt rode on his head up the stairs.

I finished the evening slouching WAY too much on my couch (I’m not pregnant I swear), working on this post with a beer in hand. Sweet!

Notes about the Process

  • I didn’t get pictures of all our routines today and that’s okay. I’ll capture bedtimes and late evenings on other nights. That’s why I like having an entire week!
  • I wanted to time-lapse our morning routine but decided I couldn’t do that AND take pictures. Will try it later this week.
  • Didn’t write down as many “Big Roo-isms” as I wanted to. Will be sure to capture them throughout the week.
  • I really want to get some videos of the kids (and me playing with them) sometime this week.
  • I documented WAY more than this but kept the blog post to the highlights.
  • I kept a pretty good journal today throughout the day.
  • I’d like to get pictures of me playing with Little Roo tomorrow. He had a rough afternoon so we didn’t get to play.
  • This is a lot of work but really, really fun. Already have some shots that I just adore and moments I’m glad I captured.

Wow this is some kind of memory keeper! I just hope I find a day that doesn’t include me losing my temper at my high string 5 year old. Your days sound a lot like mine except I am SO jealous of that 2:30 pickup. I would give a lot for that!

Great post and not boring. Love getting to know you better!

My two favorite photo catches of the day are of them hiding under the blankets after the bath and the feet poking out from under the curtain.

My guy dislikes the camera for the most part, so I think we going to see lots of back and side shots of him this week.

I am going to have to step up my picture taking game!! My little guys adored preschool… though probably not as much as me.

That shot of them in the curtains is perfect! I agree with Erin — I definitely need to step up my game.

Whew! I’m not even going to try to compare to yours, because there’s just no way. 🙂 I am satisfied with my start, though, so hopefully I can keep up!

I enjoyed your day. Your two are so cute. I know it must be hard for you working and staying home, but it’s good that you have those days set to work.

This sounds very similar to my day! Except my youngest doesn’t go to preschool, so I don’t get that break! But the boys playing and hiding has got to be one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen! Melts your heart, doesn’t it? When they play so well together!

Yes! It just makes me cringe thinking about them getting hurt but I just love watching them play!

You got some nice shots of the kids today. I need to charge the battery for my camera. All my pictures were with my iPhone yesterday and they didn’t come out great. I’m going to try to focus on our evening tonight since I didn’t take any pictures of evening yesterday.

I LOVE your idea of having Big Roo “race” to pick up his toys in 3 minutes! That is such a great idea! Gonna have to remember that one 🙂 Oh – and your boys are too cute! They look like such great buddies, walking hand in hand to preschool.

Everything with Big Roo is a race so it works wonderfully!

We do the same thing when we pick up our blocks! We sing the “clean up” song double fast and see how fast we can pick them up. Works like a charm!

Great photos and fun recap of your Monday – mine started out with a bed wetting accident too.

I cannot believe how big lil Roo is now. That’s crazy to me. He’s so grown. They’re too cute. My day would be way too boring in comparison, so a week would just drag, but maybe one of these days I’ll get a day done! 😉

Great pictures! I love that you captured so much detail. Did you use a tripod to get the picture of y’all making coffee together?

    • melissa says

Actually I enlisted hubby’s help for that but I’ve used the tripod a TON so far this week!
