We may be documenting a week in our lives this week but nothing was too ordinary about today! With less than six hours of sleep, I managed to teach a step class this morning (it’s a once a month thing) then go walk for miles at the state fair. In fact, as soon as this post is done, I’m probably off to bed.
Since today was all about the fair, I figured that’s what I’d share for today’s post!
We got there around lunchtime so of course we chowed down on friend stuff. You HAVE to eat at least SOME fair food, right? Our favorite was the Wisconsin Fried Cheese. Yummmmm.
Last year was a state fair nightmare. We took the “busy” way to get there and a 10 mile drive took about 2.5 hours. NO LIE. We were nervous about that happening again but we went a different way. We were there and parked within 20 minutes. The walk was long but at least we were moving!
Big Roo’s first ride was the funhouse (we tried another one but he was too scared). He wanted me to hold his hand in a lot of parts because of the moving floors but LOVED it. He even asked to go again.
There’s nothing more symbolic of a state fair than a ferris wheel with a beautiful blue sky (unedited by the way).
And isn’t this one of the most gorgeous pictures ever? Innocent, pure, beautiful. I just want to squeeze him forever.
He got to do the kiddie swings too which he loved too.
Daddy Roo got the second picture with the cool shadow on the ground. (on his new iPhone. Hmpff.)
Next up… monster trucks. Little Roo strapped in with the Hubs.
A fair isn’t complete without people-watching and freaky stuff. The BEST people-watching moment today was a lady about six months pregnant with a shirt that stopped ABOVE her belly. Her entire belly was showing and she had this massive tattoo across it. Classy with a capital C, I tell you.
This is also classy.
Walking made us hungry again so we got the kiddos some cotton candy and an Icee for Big Roo. While we were in line, I asked Big Roo if I could have a sip when he got his Icee. He asked me how many sips I wanted. Two, I answered. “That’s what I was thinking too, Mom.” Haha.
However Little Roo had a hankering for some too.
Of course, things went downhill at this point. Little Roo was tired and he kept screaming for more Icee as Big Roo counted the sips he was giving his brother and whined with each one.
Daddy Roo was on a freaking MISSION for some Apple Fritters. On such a mission that we walked through massive crowds for like 45 minutes to get to the other side of the fair. Me. I was kinda irked but once we got there I was glad.
Reason I was irked (pushing a stroller through this- OMG):
After much crying and whining, we finally made it to the Apple place. We ordered a fritter, which strangely wasn’t what I’d consider a fritter but it was still good.
He and Little Roo shared an apple as began the LONG trek back to the car. My feet like like they did on the long hikes we used to take. Big Roo got lucky and caught a ride (he moved to the shoulders shortly after this picture).
State Fair Favorites (According to Big Roo)
While our Saturday, wasn’t typical, we had one monumentous day.
We asked Big Roo about it tonight after dinner.
DADDY ROO: What was your favorite food of the day?
BIG ROO: The cotton candy was the best of all.
DADDY ROO: What about the apple?
BIG ROO: The apple was the fourth best.
ME: What was your favorite ride?
BIG ROO: I already told you… the ferris wheel. (true… he told us that on the way home!)
ME: What do you think Little Roo liked best?
BIG ROO: I think (sounds like “zink” Little Roo liked, um, the pickle today. (laughs because we didn’t eat pickles). I think he liked the Coke. (he got two sips of Coke today)
What a blast of a day! Tomorrow should be more back to normal… it’s the LAST day of Week in My Life!
