My big dude is a budding photographer. His aunt and uncle came to visit and took Big Roo on a walk. In his hands? A non-digital fish eye camera.
The brand new Momcomm.com is alive!
Stop by and see!
Are you guys missing Momcomm?
I hope you are, even if it’s just a smidge!
Well, the wait is almost over. The new Momcomm.com goes live on Monday, April 4!
I’ve been busy building, designing, writing and tweaking the new site. I’m in the midst of some final touches and come Monday, I’ll be live, baby!
Here’s a little part of my new look- she’s a happy blogging mom.
If you’ve forgotten what awesomey goodness I have in store for you, then brush up with the details of the new Momcomm.com. (If you’re in line for a blog critique, I’ll be contacting you about 2-3 weeks in advance.)
I’ll announce it right here so be sure to stop by on the 4th. Until then, I’d love it if you’d go ahead and follow me on Facebook (really need help here- 25 likes gets me a vanity URL) and on Twitter (I’ll still mainly be on @adventuroo but this one will be chock full of good info and blog posts).
Thanks for your support (and your patience)!
Today I’m doing All Thing Fadra’s stream of consciousness Sunday. The rules? Set a timer and do a FIVE minute free write. The kicker though? NO editing. JUST HIT PUBLISH. God help me cause I DO love to edit myself.
I finally feel like my head’s above water.
Although I think I may be blocking out some serious things on my to-do list but for now I’m enjoying the denial of that.
Between the two birthday parties, company in town (family) and trying to start a new blog while simulatneoulsy building a freelance career in marketing consulting, I’ve had my share of things that have kept my busy. But last week, things came to a head. We had the birthday parties, I landed some freelance work and some more work from my old company, I toured a preschool as I contemplate alternating or switching to a different schedule. And I made a lot of progess on Momcomm.com.
I’m a to-do list queen and usually my lists last for a while as I keep pushing a thing or two over to another day and another day until I just decide not to do it. Or I build up so much dread about doing it that I make it owrse than it is. This past week though, I’m making lists and checking them off. Rinse, repeat. It’s been fabulous.
Next week I ave a productive one planned. Oh did I mention my email inbox has less than 15 emails in it? How long can I keep that up I wonder. Anyway, after feeling SO behind all the time, I actually feel pretty good about my workload.
Let’s see how long this will last.
First of all, thanks for the overwhelming support of my new venture! Marketing is in my blood and last year I felt really compelled to start the Momcomm series. But it was never a great fit for my blog so I’m glad to give it a new home that can be solely focused on that (and by the way I’ve got three month’s worth of blog critiques already lined up)!
I looked through my past posts (other than Momcomm ones), talked with friends and other bloggers and tried to narrow down find where my true passions intersect with the posts that you like best.
And so, I’m tightening up Adventuroo a bit. I started Adventuroo to blog about the great outdoors and kids but I found myself doing that less and less. As I was thinking about how to reframe this blog with Momcomm out of the way, I was a little sad thinking I diluted my original focus on adventure.
But a friend pointed out that adventure is not only a hike in the woods. It’s a whole lot more.
And so, my friends, I’ve decided to boil Adventuroo down into a single statement: Capturing adventure in the everyday. (Yes, it will be up in my header soon.)
That statement focuses on three adventurific areas:
Adventures in Motherhood
When I started Adventuroo, I didn’t realize how much fun I’d have writing about motherhood. Maybe it’s because my day jobs have consisted of writing about “exciting” things like software, checking accounts and golf clubs. So, I’ve enjoyed finding my voice in posts like Call Me for a Good Time, What About the Boys and the Letter to My Sleep-Fighting Baby.
Motherhood is the biggest adventure of all and so I’ll definitely keep on writing posts about it.
My original premise of Adventuroo was to be a place to learn about getting your kids outdoors. I’m an outdoor mama to the core but found that I couldn’t come up with enough content… I also found that writing about motherhood was just way too fun to leave out.
However, I still love sharing outdoorsy stuff. Whether it’s my Summer Adventure Bucket List, How to Choose a Kid-Friendly Campsite or giving away a pair of fun-to-say Chukka boots from Hi-Tec, blogging about the outdoors gets me all warm and fuzzy… and ready to strap a kid on my back and GO!
So stay tuned for tips, stories and pictures focused on kids and the outdoors. If you’re craving even more outdoor goodness, you can get your fix from my blog buddies Debi from Go Explore Nature, Roy from Camping Blogger and Eric from Family Campman.
Documenting the Adventures of Everyday Life (& Helping You Do It Too)
This is the area of my blog I’m really expanding.
I’ve always been a picture taker. And a writer. And a momento keeper. I’ve kinda nostalgic like that. In fact, for our 10 year anniversary, my husband made me a card by putting together movie stubs, concert tickets and game tickets I kept throughout the years (yeah- isn’t he awesome?)
Well, I like to “document” my life. A close up picture of this. A note jotted down to remember that. And this even became more important to me after having kids. What will they have to look back on their younger years? Would it be cool for THEIR kids to see their dad playing the Wii? Or their grandma (ahem- that’s me) hiking with their dad as a child?
My Joy in the Ordinary post sums it up perfectly. Before I wrote that, I captured a week of my family’s life in pictures and words. I treasure what I documented that week because it shows a slice of our life in 2010, which one day will seem like “so long ago.”
…I’ve got a new meme for ya!
Capture the Everyday is about getting you to capture those everyday moments in your life! Each Thursday, I’ll issue a simple challenge to capture a photograph of your daily life. You can post just a picture or add some words to go along with it. You’ll have a week to get it done and then I’ll issue another. It’s a quick, easy way to start capturing those little parts of your life.
Come back tomorrow for our first challenge! Then next Thursday, I’ll set up a linky for you to share your sliver of life. I’ve got some fun ones lined up- some parent-focused, some not. A little for everyone!
In addition to the meme, I’ll be posting tips and fun ways to capture your everyday world.
If you haven’t joined my Facebook page yet, be sure to do so. I started posting a weekly fill in the blank question and it’s been fun seeing the responses! Yesterday I asked “If I had an extra half hour to myself today (or a half hour period!), I would spend that time ________.” Tell everyone what YOU would do. (About 80% of people answered the same thus far.)
Whew, okay. I’m exhausted from all this Momcomm/Adventuroo news. Thanks you guys for motivating me to always do my best in this blogging world. You make the all-too-often late nights worth it.
