To my boys,
You won’t remember what it felt like when I first held you in my arms…
Or how I rocked you in the wee hours of the morning as you cried and cried.
Or the things that Daddy did to make you giggle those insanely funny baby giggles.
You won’t be able to tell me what your first words were…
Or what it felt like to walk to me as you took your first steps.
Or that you loved gazing at the trees while we hiked.
You won’t know what books made you laugh…
Or which foods you liked to toss to our dog.
Or how comforted you were when I kissed your boo boos.
You won’t remember.
But hopefully you’ll feel it deep down.
Love.
Comfort.
Contentment.
And that will stay with you as begin to make memories that WILL stick with you.
You won’t remember these early, early years.
But I will.
And that’s why I take pictures.
I scribble down the things you do and say.
Because one day you’ll want to see.
And I’ll show you.
