I hope a week was long enough to keep you guys in suspense. Was it?
I’ve gotta set the stage here first though. As most of you know, I got laid off from my part-time marketing director position at the end of 2010. Punch. in. the. gut.
But getting kicked off that bus was just what I needed. To take risks, to think about my career, to do try to do it MY WAY. I’m now consulting for marketing and social media and so far, so good (I’m even doing some projects for my old company, which is kinda ironic).
…Point of this is…
I have time to follow an idea that’s been brewing for a while now. I’ve let it percolate… drip, drip, dripping out and seeing what you guys think.
The drip? My Momcomm posts. You guys love them. They are the most popular part of this blog. And the survey you so graciously took last week just sealed to deal for me to say “I HAVE TO DO MORE.”
Starting in March, you’re gonna get a helluva lot more Momcomm. By a lot more, I mean…
AN ENTIRE WEBSITE!
Here’s a sneak peek of the new look…
To say I’m excited about this is one big understatement. I’m doing-backflips-then-frontflips-jumping-up-and-down excited about it!
Now just moving my weekly post over to a separate blog wouldn’t be enough for me to hurt myself with backflips, so here’s the low down on what you’ll see at Momcomm.com:
Monday: My normal weekly posts
Monday will stay as is, just on the new site. I’ll share tips on writing, blogging or social media. You’ll also see a select number of guest bloggers who will share their awesome tips too.
Wednesday: The Really Honest Blog Critique
I see it on forums a lot…. bloggers asking people to review this blog and give honest feedback. And then the post is full of “I like your blog. It’s pretty!” or “you’re doing a great job!” So much for any useful constructive criticism.
For most of my marketing career, I’ve edited and provided creative direction for websites, advertisements and all sorts of marketing materials. When I wasn’t doing that, I was the one actually writing and designing. I’ve worked with designers and developers on numerous website redesigns too.
So, I’d like to put my experience to good use and provide critiques for my fellow bloggers too.
Each week, I’ll critique one gutsy blogger’s blog in the following areas:
- Overall blog navigation/functionality
I’ll lay it all out- the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly. Then I’ll turn it over to Momcomm readers to help critique or just post some encouragement. We’re all in this together so let’s help each other out, right?
Ready to have YOUR blog critiqued? Fill out this form and I’ll add you to the queue. I imagine this will fill up fast since there are only 52 of them a year!
Even if you don’t want your blog critiqued, I’m sure you’ll walk away with useful tips for yourself!
Thursday: Quick Tip Thursday
Want to know if there’s a plug-in to do xyz? Stumped on a grammar question? Curious what a certain piece of Twitter lingo is? Each Thursday, I’ll answer a burning question about writing, blogging or social media. If the question warrants a full post, I’ll turn it into a Monday post. Have a quick question for me? Fill out this form (I’ll even link to your blog… or keep it anonymous).
Other things you may see on the upcoming Momcomm.com:
- Occasional reviews on books, tools and other stuff that will make you rock more (or stuff that you should just skip)
- Momcomm Mashups- I’ll post a question on Facebook regarding blogging and post your answers in a mashup. To get in on the action, be sure to join Momcomm’s Facebook page which will be live when Momcomm.com launches!
- Rants and raves- My most popular Momcomm post to date is my post on Comment Vomit (over 100 comments!). Look out for more of these type of posts where I get my snarky face on.
- E-books- I plan to release a few e-books after Momcomm gets launched. They’ll be affordable guides stuffed with useful tips in a workbook style format.
- Got even more ideas but I don’t wanna get ahead of myself. Let’s go with what’s above for now. 🙂
So when is all this Momcomm goodness starting?
Well, my goal is to have it live sometime in early March. Stay tuned for a definite date. In the meantime, I’m saving all my Momcomm posts for the new site so no new ones here at Adventuroo (sad face).
Speaking of Adventuroo… anything different happening here?
Why, YES, I’m glad you asked!
My biggest fear with launching Momcomm is that y’all won’t come back to Adventuroo. So, if I can beg just a smidge… I ask that you stay with me. Don’t make me haz a sad face, okay? I’m tightening up my focus and starting a cool new feature you’ll be dying to participate in. But there’s just too much excitement in this post already so I’ll announce the Adventuroo magic on Wednesday!
I can’t wait to hear what you think about my big announcement… spill it!
