Week in My Life: Tuesday

October 11, 2011 by melissa

Holy Tuesday! Tuesday was one of those days when I wish I had about five more hours in the day. Frustration was the word of the day and I still have more work to do after this post goes live so “sleepless” will also describe my day! Let’s get to my re-cap:

When Little Roo wakes up, he likes to meander into the bathroom while Daddy Roo is showering. You can see the wet shower door as Little Roo messes with the TP. Don’t mind the overflowing hamper in our closet.

Even though Daddy Roo and I brush our teeth as soon as we wake up, Big Roo has been insisting we brush our teeth with him when HE wakes up (about an hour after us). He ever-so-sweetly made our toothbrushes (using his kids toothpaste) and Daddy Roo and I did a tooth brushing mulligan.

I left out the helmet from yesterday… guess who wanted to wear it.And this? I. Just. Don’t. Know.

Lunchtime Play by Play

On Tuesdays, the kids are only in preschool until noon so I thought I’d do a lunchtime play-by-play.

I only eat lunch with the kids twice a week during the week- Tuesday and Friday. The other days they eat at school so I can work an extra hour. Here’s how we roll for lunch:

12:14 Arrive home from preschool. Little Roo fell asleep on the 1 mile drive home, like he typically does.

12:15 Start grabbing leftovers out while Little Roo says “nuh-uh” to everything.

12:17- Settled on giving him yogurt while I get lunch ready.

12:20- Making PB&J… both from Trader Joes (our fave place).

12:23- Little Roo managed to get second tube open (was reserved for N) and was eating it. Pointing down at yogurt on floor “uh-oh!”

12:26- Lunch for Little Roo is served: half a PB&J and sliced grapes.

12:28- Served Big Roo PB&J sandwich while I get him some fruit. He whines we don’t have the soup he wants (Trader Joe’s Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato or Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Cars version). Yes, he loves that pepper and tomato soup.

Then, I look again and find the Cars soup and put it on the stove. Sweet!

12:30- Heat up MY lunch, which is leftover homemade beef stroganoff. Not low-fat but oh-so-yummy.

12:31- Pour milk for the kids. Realize that Little Roo already had a sippy cup made in the fridge.

12:32- Big Roo randomly falls off chair “I hurt my whole leg. Oh that hurted.”

12:32 “Where is my SOUP?” – Big Roo

12:34 Soup’s now on the table but too hot.

12:34 Make myself a glass of sweet tea.

12:36 I’m sitting down to eat!

12:37- Kids blowing on soup even though it’s not too hot anymore.

12:39 Soup on the Little Roo’s lap!

12:44 Big Roo made Little Roo say Joe Joe… now it means he won’t eat. I tell them to finish more soup.

12:46 Big Roo leans over and knocks his head on the chair beside him. Minor whining but my GAWD sit still

12:47 I eat grapes from Litlle Roo’s plate as it’s clear he only wants a Joe Joe.

Little Roo then starts rambling who knows what but man it’s cute!

12:49 Spoon feed Little Roo one bite of soup, then joke “don’t eat it!” because that usually gets him to eat but this time he spit it out and threw it.

12:50 Hand out Joe Joes, one each. Little Roo proclaims, “Cool!”

12:51 Little Roo shares the top of his cookie with Big Roo, who is thrilled by this development.

12:53 Big Roo ran over and blew a raspberry in Little Roo’s face. I scold him for spraying Little Roo with spit.

Little Roo drops milk. Drops again within the minute. Tried to throw soup bowl off the table but I caught it.

12:54 We’re done just as Little Roo hits hand on table and cries for a second.

1:07- Little Roo’s down for a nap and I finally clear off the kitchen table from lunch.

Frustrations with a Capital F

The afternoon went downhill quickly.

First Little Roo woke up early as I was trying to read up on everyone’s posts from yesterday. He was crying and snotty so you can’t blame him.

Then I got Big Roo ready for soccer.

Earlier I had called about Big Roo’s soccer game. It had been raining earlier so I wondered if it was still on. I called the Y and their Hotline wasn’t updated so I called again and asked the receptionist who said, “Did you check the hotline?”

Me: “Yes but it hasn’t been updated since September 30.”

The Y: “Well, no one has said anything about it being canceled so it should be still a go.”

Why I didn’t double-check I don’t know.

We drove over to the fields… to find no one there. Big Roo was a bit upset by that. He really wanted to play.

So I decided to run a few errands since I was stressed about all I needed to do anyway. Of course, I drove the wrong way and ended up taking 10 minutes longer to get to my first stop.

After we ran errands, we came home and the kids played for a while. Sometimes I get so stressed with them playing though. I often wonder what’s too rowdy? Where do I draw the line. They LOVE to run and ram these trucks together but my rule is no running and no bumping trucks. Just race them without pushing them. Maybe when Little Roo is older but I’ve seen him bump his head and fall too many times from trying to keep up with Big Roo. It’s the neverending dilemma on how much space to give them to play and trying to keep them safe.

All the near misses make me wanna drink though I can tell ya that.

Making Dinner

Making dinner also makes me a big stressball. They aren’t the age where you can just let them be so you have to check in on them often. I like them to play in the playroom (dining room turned playroom) while I cook. By the way, most of the toys are to the right where you can’t see them. Promise!

If there’s one thing we teach Big Roo, it’s how to cook. He LOVES helping us in the kitchen. When he saw I was making cornbread for our chicken chili, he said, “I love breaking eggs. That makes me so exciting.” Heh.

Of course, Little Roo HAS to climb onto the stool too. Of course.

Here’s our dinner. Paula Deen recipe for Green Chicken Chili. Turned out delish! (doesn’t look like a big serving but the bowls are deep!)

Bedtime with Little Roo

Tonight was my turn to get the kids to bed. I’ll capture Big Roo later this week but tonight I got crappy iPhone photos (can’twait for the new iPhone on Friday).

I did manage to get this picture though with my regular phone. For some reason, Little Roo decided to strip down. Beats me!

We headed upstairs. Little Roo pulled out wipes. Awesome.

Then we read some books. He was very intrigued I was taking pictures.

Finally, we brushed his teeth. He starts by doing it himself then I finish off. He got interested in the soap and payed me no mind. It isn’t always that easy, that’s for sure. I think I washed both of his thin (non-flannel) long-sleeved PJ bottoms so he’s in mis-matched PJs.

As I put him to bed, I tried to get Little Roo to say “love you” since he did it for Daddy but all I got was “night night” over and over. I’ll take it… for now.

Notes about the process:

  • I HAVE to shorten my posts for the rest of the week. Taking SO long to put together but man I love seeing the day.
  • Need more Daddy Roo pictures.
  • Tomorrow I’ll time-lapse my workday and probably keep the rest of the post relatively short. For me (I do tend to talk a lot).

Week in the Life: Tuesday

July 13, 2010 by melissa

It’s day two of my week-long project. Again, it’s tiring. Again, it’s wonderful. Wonderful to capture all these normal moments in our life.

There were no peeing tantrums this morning– yay! In fact, Big Roo was SO exhausted from yesterday that I had to wake him up at 7:15!

Today was totally different from yesterday in that I work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. I’m a marketing director but have the luxury of working from home (trust me, I know how lucky I am but I do miss an office sometimes). I did a pretty good job documenting the day too. I wrote down times that things happened. And since part of our morning routine is watching Today Show while we’re getting ready, I jotted down the three lead stories (the new oil leak cap, how the girl who was kidnapped is doing and Mel Gibson’s tirade).

Here are today’s faves:

Little Roo is still sleeping downstairs in our room in the pack n play. This is the gorgeously happy face I wake up to in the morning. Squeeeee!

It’s a rarity in this house to actually have to wake up Big Roo in the morning. But that’s what I had to do today. As you can see, he sleeps with Burt the pink bear, Doggie (under his arm) and some fave cars.

Since Big Roo usually comes downstairs to our room in the morning, he always brushes his teeth in our room. Luckily there was no pee or teeth-brushing tantrum this morning.

We usually eat breakfast in the living room in the morning. On the menu? Cottage cheese and pineapple. Big Roo just likes the cottage cheese. I ate later on and had a bagel (hello carbs).

After Daddy Roo took Noah to daycare, I got Little Roo to sleep. He’s home with me in the mornings on Tuesday and Thursday. I’ve only started doing this for a week now. It’s a way to save money and spend a little more time with the guy.

My work computer is set-up at the kitchen table. How’s THIS for multi-tasking?! I’m holding the baby, eating a snack (my turn for cottage cheese) and listening to a software demo. Bam yow!

I just love this everyday shot. Here’s what the weather was like today. And you can see I need to charge the phone.

Workplace #2. I had to nurse Little Roo so I headed to the bedroom and read something on the computer while I fed him.

Workplace #3. Unfortunately the little guy didn’t want to sleep this morning. Usually I get more time to work. He rolls all over the place so I have re-situate often.

Little Roo was doing his usual flipping over and over and over. He ended up trying to get big brother’s trains.

And the doggie Trajan. He usually lays around the house either in our room or Big Roo’s. He sleeps. And wants to go outside and chase squirrels. But mostly sleeps.

On Tuesdays, I pick Big Roo up from daycare and Little Roo up from his afternoon at the baby sitter’s. He’s always excited to come home. Except today he and his friend ran towards the road when we got outside and I had to chase them. In doing so, he made me drop the camera on the concrete. I was uber-ticked off and took away his cars for the ride home. Fun stuff.

Fast forward to bathtime (I got dinner shots too- teriyaki stir fry). Daddy gave the baby a bath and I took the big guy upstairs for his. There’s nothing like that clean baby (and kid) smell.

I got this robe at a consignment shop for $3 and it’s Big Roo’s favorite. My almost bro-in-law said he looked like Huge Heffner. Hehe. I have no idea why he was making that silly face though.

For some reason, this kid didn’t want to sleep tonight. About half an hour after bedtime, I came upstairs and he was playing with cars. Surprise surprise. He finally zonked out at 9:30ish. Baby was out before 8:00.

Why Jumperoos rock my baby’s world:

Instead of a Big Roo quote, how about let’s end the day with this little token of cuteness. (And yes I know I use their real names here!)

My notes about the process:

  • I used my external flash today. Got WAY better indoor shots. I would marry that flash if I could.
  • I got tons and tons of routine shots (way too many to post).
  • At the beginning of the day, I didn’t think I was going to capture anything exciting. But I did (naner naner to me).
  • I’m not going to get the morning routine EVERY DAY and the bedtime routine EVERY DAY. I’ll only capture the differences from day to day (like I need 7 pics of Big Roo brushing his teeth in the morning).
  • Hoping we can get in an evening walk tomorrow.

Bring it, Wednesday!
